TRAVEL ENTRY

Lucerne, Switzerland - Sleepy Town - 20 April 2003

Posted by Edmond on Wednesday, May 7, 2003 · Comments (0)

Evening walk around the town of Lucerne from the convention centre, around the Spreuer and Chapel bridge and the town hall. An air of peace seemed to descend on the Old Town of Lucerne with not many people walking about and many of the shops closing for the night.

Background

As soon as the lights came on at around 8pm, I left the convention centre, to walk towards the Chapel bridge and Seebrucke. Surprisingly there were not many people walking about when I passed the Chapel bridge, but it was getting quite chilly in Lucerne. Almost as if I had the whole of Lucerne to myself.

The eery quietness continued when I arrived at the dimly lit Spreuer bridge. However there were lights inside the bridge, so I could still admire the paintings mounted under its ceiling. Other than that, the dark surroundings gave a sense of mystery to the area.

The town centre was more reassuring, lights coming from the clocktower of the Town hall and the high street shops provided warmth to the area. However, the streets were still very empty, even though it was still early in the night, and many of the shops have closed, except for some restaurants. Although it felt strange walking around in such quiet streets, having a quiet space to think about what to do tomorrow was quite easy. Just hope the weather holds

Technical

Canon EOS 300V. 28-90mm USM lense. Kodak Portra NC 400 film. Ball socket head used as a tripod, even though it was inconvenient sometimes. 1-3 second exposure settings.
