TRAVEL ENTRY

Brienz, Switzerland - Escape to Lucerne - 20 April 2003

Posted by Edmond on Saturday, May 3, 2003 · Comments (1)

Early departure from Grindelwald Grund to Lucerne via the SBB train. On the way the train passes through Lake Brienz and the Brienz railyway station. I was able to take a few shots out of the window, despite the approaching weather front.

Background

A weather front had suddenly appeared around the Jungfrau region, so without hesitation, I quickly left the hostel and caught the first train leaving for Interlaken Ost. While on board the train, one of the rail staff spoke to me about the sudden appearance of gale force winds and how they were forced to cancel all services to Jungfrau and all cable cars and gondolas. He also pointed out to me that such weather changes were common around this time of the year, as the region emerges from winter to summer. I told him I was leaving for Lucerne, which he replied "There should be no problem there".

Not surprisingly, the next train to Lucerne was waiting at Interlaken Ost, making the connection change stress-free. From here, the train passed through Lake Brienz, with the mountains in the background. Already, the clouds were beginning to gather around the mountains, and perhaps make its approach down towards the lake. Despite this, the Sun still managed to shine its light reassuringly on to the lake. It would take another hour before we left Lake Brienz, and the Jungfrau region before heading northwards towards Lucerne
