Grindelwald, Switzerland - Stuck in a moment - 17th April 2003

Posted by Edmond on Friday, April 25, 2003 · Comments (1)

First evening in Grindelwald. The relaxed atmosphere around the town gave me an opportunity to talk to a travelling couple in a popular bar/bistro during dinner about plans and sights to see as well as a chance to savour the mountain views of the Jungfrau region before nightfall.

Background

Since there wasn't much to do in Grindelwald and many of the cable cars and buses were doing the last rounds, I decided to have dinner early. AFter all, I needed an early start for the trip to the top of Europe tomorrow.

I managed to strike a conversation with a friendly american couple and their baby that was having a driving trip around Europe. Like myself, they also worked and lived in London, but have decided that they want to go back home and should do a last trip around Europe in their car. I exchanged ideas on where I would go, and give them a bit of advice on catching the early train on the Jungfrau to get the discount ticket. Finally, I shared some ideas on going around Florence and Venice, as they were planning to go there.

By nightfall, clouds had gathered around the peaks of Eiger and Schrekhorn under a deep crimson sky - one of the most beautiful mountain scenes I had laid my eyes on. Had it not been for my early morning start, I would have stayed longer, gazing at the mountains and soaking up the fresh alpine air.
