TRAVEL ENTRY

Venice, Italy - Dusk on the canal - 16th March 2003

Posted by Edmond on Thursday, March 27, 2003 · Comments (0)

Grand Canal from Cannaregio to San Marco near Rialto bridge. A walk along the Strada Nova from Ca' Nova to Campo San Bartolomeo, San Campo San Salvadore, Rio di Fava and back to the Rialto bridge before nightfall.

Background

The long avenue of Strada Nova was one of the busiest streets I had seen in Venice. The whole street is lined with high street fashion shops selling famous names as well as jewellery shops. The crowds of people continued onwards from outside the church of SS Apostoli, southwards through the square of Campo San Giovanni Orisostomo and the square of Campo San Bartolomeo. The crowds were in stark contrast to some of the areas I visited around San Polo. However, there were quiet areas around the canal of Rio de Fava near the churches of San Lio and Santa Maria della Fava.

By early nightfall, the Rialto bridge and some palaces along the canal had lit up to show the full beauty of the grand canal. However, some of the shops around the Rialto market had began to close. This did not dim the enthusiasm of some tourists to go around and take photos of the canal and the bridge, although there were less tourists than before.

Technical

Canon EOS 300V with 28-90mm and 75-300mm USM with Kodak ISO 400 film. Canon A20 Powershot digital camera. All night shots taken with 3 seconds exposure and 1 second exposure with the digital camera (including the panned shot of the vaporetto).
