London, England - Shadows and Tall Trees - 30th January 2003

Posted by Edmond on Thursday, March 6, 2003 · Comments (0)

There was still a thick layer of snow in Ealing Common. It had also started raining, but this would not stop me taking photos of the area in snow. However, later in the morning the sky cleared, making the snow shine in the sunlight, so I proceeded towards Gunnersbury Park and was surprised to see more snow. One of the downsides was I had to quickly take the photos in case the snow melted.

Background
During the snow flurries of the past week, most of the east and northern parts of the UK received a mega dumping of snow. This caused chaos for transport, but transformed parts of Greater London into a winter wonderland. The snow covered the area for most of the weekend, so I took the time to take some photos around Ealing Common and Gunnersbury Park (provided the weather improved).

Unfortunately, rain started setting in early in the morning, so I initially felt disappointed. But the inclement weather seemed to provide an air of mystery and calm around Ealing Common. The trees looked dark and shadowy, making interesting subjects against the white of the snow.

Suddenly, the clouds started to break (Yay!). Impulse set in as I travelled the Tube to Gunnersbury Park. The snow had transformed this once uninteresting park into a remote, unspoilt wilderness place or even a scene for fairy tale. While trees soaked the welcome rays of sunlight, I was surprised to spot a couple of parakeets flying among the treetops.

Technical
Canon EOS 300V with Fuji ISO 400 film 28-90mm USM Lense. 75-300mm USM Lense for the parakeet.
